Geopathic Stress
We live day in and day out with natural earth energies (electromagnetic fields) all around us. When these energies are in harmony, we do not feel any ill effects from them. The problem is when they are not in harmony; this is when Geopathic Stress (GS) comes into the picture (geo = Greek word for earth, pathic = Greek word for pathos which means disease). GS is caused by earth energies that no longer have a natural vibration to them. This “unharmonious” state can be caused by underground running water, certain mineral concentrations, fault lines, and underground cavities. When these natural vibrations become distorted, they can be harmful to living organisms.
It is still being debated whether or not GS actually causes illnesses, but there is great research out there linking GS to lowering the body’s natural ability to fight illness by weakening the immune system. This is particularly worrisome if you sleep in GS at night or spend long periods of time in a GS area. When you sleep, your body repairs itself by producing new cells. If it’s trying to fight GS, then this repair is severely compromised. Ancient peoples were careful not to build their homes over these areas, for they already knew thousands of years ago what we are just beginning to uncover now.
Geopathic Stress in the work place can create an aggravating work space, contributing to things like: headaches, tension between staff members, lethargy, increased stress, and fatigue to name a few.
Professionals can use specific techniques to locate and treat the GS in your workplace. Please refer back to the “Feng Shui for Businesses” link to the left for details on our consultation offerings.
Sick Building Syndrome
Closely linked to Geopathic Stress is what has come to be known as Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). SBS is a well known phenomenon, but experts have a hard time pin pointing the true causes of it. To prove it, read this definition of SBS as seen on BBC Health: “Sick building syndrome (SBS) describes a situation whereby people experience symptoms of ill health that seem to be linked to spending time in a building - but where no specific cause can be identified.”
Symptoms described by people spending time in these sick buildings are often described as: headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, skin irritation, stress, irritability and loss of concentration.
There are many who believe GS is largely to blame for SBS. So while it continues to puzzle many scientists, there are those of us who believe that you can do something positive and at little cost by addressing the GS situation. In so doing, you can save a lot of money by reducing absenteeism and lack of motivation in your staff.
According to Rolf Gordon*, when GS is successfully neutralized in a space the following benefits have been seen:
- Less tension between staff in offices
- Children are easier to teach and more under control in Schools
- Customers feel more at ease and sales improve
- Customers complain less
- And even in Hospitals patients have been seen to recover more quickly
